Conclusion
Many of these firms work with the BIM and asset information workflows where COBie is commonly used. It’s the unglamorous last step of a project that either gets planned for from day one or gets scrambled together right before turnover, and the difference shows up months later when a facility team is hunting for a warranty date or trying to figure out which vendor installed a specific air handler. Dallas has enough construction volume right now that this problem isn’t going away, and the firms that treat data handoff as part of the design process rather than an afterthought tend to save their clients a lot of frustration once the building is occupied.
What’s worth noticing is how differently sized these operations are, from small BIM shops that live entirely in Revit and Navisworks to global engineering firms where data delivery is one piece of a much larger practice. Neither approach is inherently the right call. A smaller outfit might move faster and know its niche cold, while a larger firm can fold facility data into a bigger commissioning or asset management effort. The right fit really comes down to the scale of the project and how much the owner already knows about what they’ll need on the other side of construction.
