Clash Detection & Resolution

Powerkh runs interdisciplinary BIM clash detection so conflicts between architecture, structure, and MEP are caught in the model instead of on site. We federate your discipline models, run rule-based clash tests in Navisworks and Solibri, and manage every issue through to a documented resolution.

BIM Clash Detection Services

Clash detection is the BIM coordination process of federating discipline models and running rule-based tests to find geometric and functional conflicts. It identifies hard clashes, soft or clearance clashes, and workflow conflicts, then tracks each issue to resolution before fabrication and construction begin.

Uncoordinated models turn into change orders, rework, and delays the moment trades reach the site. Our clash detection service federates your architectural, structural, and MEP models into a single coordinated environment, runs hard and clearance clash tests against agreed rule sets, and filters out the noise so your team sees only real, actionable conflicts. Every valid clash is grouped, prioritized, and assigned so nothing is lost between coordination rounds.

With 400+ delivered BIM/VDC projects for engineering firms and contractors across the US, UK, and Europe, we work as an extension of your VDC team inside your BIM execution plan. We coordinate in imperial by default and support metric, follow your naming conventions and tolerance standards, run structured coordination meetings, and sign an NDA on request. Results are delivered as clash reports, BCF issues, and marked-up views your designers can act on immediately.

Why Outsource Clash Detection to Powerkh

Fewer clashes reach the site

Conflicts are resolved in the federated model during coordination, cutting RFIs, change orders, and field rework once construction starts.

Signal, not noise

We tune clash rules and tolerances and group results by system and location so your team reviews real issues instead of thousands of duplicate hits.

Trackable, auditable issues

Every clash is logged with an owner, status, and resolution note in BCF, giving you a clear coordination record through each revision.

Flexible, predictable engagement

Hourly pricing with a free quote and payment only after delivery, plus an English-speaking team reachable 8:00-18:00 UTC+2 on weekdays.

Our Clash Detection Services

Model federation and setup

We combine architectural, structural, and MEP models into a single coordinated model with correct shared coordinates and discipline grouping.

Hard clash detection

Rule-based tests locate physical intersections between elements such as ducts through beams or pipes through walls at LOD 300 and above.

Soft and clearance clashes

We check maintenance access, insulation gaps, fireproofing envelopes, and code-required clearances that plain geometry checks miss.

Clash grouping and prioritization

Valid clashes are de-duplicated, grouped by zone and system, and ranked so your team tackles the highest-impact conflicts first.

Issue tracking and BCF reporting

Each conflict is assigned an owner and status and exported as BCF, so resolutions flow straight back into Revit or your design tools.

Coordination meeting support

We prepare agendas, marked-up viewpoints, and progress dashboards and run structured coordination rounds until the model is clash-free.

Our Clash Detection Process

  1. Share your discipline models

Send your architectural, structural, and MEP models along with the target LOD, tolerances, and standards. We review the scope and return a free quote.

  2. Federate and configure rules

We assemble the federated model, align coordinates, and set up clash tests, search sets, and clearance rules matched to your BIM execution plan.

  3. Run tests and filter results

Clash tests are executed in Navisworks and Solibri, then de-duplicated and grouped so only genuine, actionable conflicts remain.

  4. Assign, review, and resolve

Issues are logged as BCF with owners and statuses, reviewed in coordination meetings, and re-tested each round until conflicts are closed.

  5. Deliver reports and sign-off

You receive clash reports, BCF issues, and marked-up viewpoints, plus a final coordination summary confirming the model is clash-free.

Software We Use

We coordinate in the same clash detection and BIM tools your VDC and design teams already rely on.

FAQ

What is included in your clash detection services?

Model federation, rule-based hard and clearance clash testing in Navisworks and Solibri, de-duplication and grouping of results, BCF issue tracking with owners and statuses, and coordination meeting support until the federated model is clash-free.

What is the difference between a hard clash and a soft clash?

A hard clash is a physical intersection, such as a duct passing through a beam. A soft or clearance clash is a violation of required space around an element, such as insufficient maintenance access or code-required clearances, even when geometry does not actually overlap.

What LOD do models need for reliable clash detection?

Meaningful clash detection generally starts at LOD 300, where elements have accurate size and location. Below that, geometry is too schematic to trust. We confirm the target LOD per discipline during scoping so results are reliable and not full of false positives.

Do you only report clashes or also help resolve them?

Both. We report, group, and prioritize clashes, then manage each issue through BCF with assigned owners and run coordination rounds. Where you want us to, our BIM team can also adjust routing and elements in the model to help close conflicts.

How do you price clash detection projects?

We charge hourly and provide a free quote after reviewing your models, disciplines, and target LOD, and payment is due only after the work is delivered. An NDA is available on request before you share any project files.
